initially in the Dublin area and whose first success was in the linen, cotton and weaving markets. They diversified into gas, mining, import-export, mercantile insurance and shipping and family members established themselves in the Youghal/Cork region. Joseph Robinson Pim (1787 – 1858), the youngest of the Pim brothers, in 1819 married Hannah Lecky, the daughter of Youghal banker and businessman John Lecky (also a Quaker), consequently developing a relationship with the Cork mercantile community. Joseph R Pim and John Lecky founded the St George Steam Packet Co. in Cork in 1822 to reduce shipping costs and corner the cotton market (Boylan) (Appendix 6: Pelican under Sailing Ships and Sirius ). Captain Robert Mahony of the Joseph R Pim previously sailed on C ambria of Cork.
