Additional information:

This ship was engaged in foreign trade to British North America and Buenos Ayres at which times she carried a boatswain in addition to a mate. The prior owner was George Peake of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Captain John Mathias (b.1824, Cardigan) lived in the port village of Ballinacurra. Mate John Mathias (b.1867, Ballinacurra) served as boatswain 1889 – 90. His Master Certificate was issued 23 Jul 1894 (Cert: 021840) in Youghal. He was captain of the White Star Liner Laurentic on 21 April 1912 and, passing over the Grand Banks just days after the sinking of the T itanic , reported no evidence of bodies or wreckage. The Laurentic was commissioned during the First World War and Commander Mathias was killed while rescuing crew members from a blazing hold fire in December of 1914. Mate Charles Ahern was likewise serving as boatswain 1890/92. Mate Thomas O’Grady previously served on Farrell’s Althea in 1887.
