19th Century Cork Sutton Mariners, Sailing Ships and Crews

George Sutton Jr (b.1836, Cork), son of Captain George Sutton b.1804 (Clonakilty) was married 1 September 1859 to Ellen Sutton, daughter of the late Captain Nathaniel Sutton (b.1794, Clonakilty} ( Cork Examiner 2 nd September 1859). Captains Edward, Gerald L. and George Walsh and Mate (future Captain) Joseph Walsh were Cork-born brothers, sons of Captain Jeremiah Walsh (b.1815, Dungarvan) and grandsons of Captain Nathaniel Sutton (b.1794, Clonakilty).

Mate Robert Twohig was another mariner son of Captain John Twohig (b.1804, Kinsale).

Captain James Goonin previously sailed as apprentice, seaman and mate on the West Indiaman Woodland Castle in the 1830s and as mate on Joseph Wheeler to the Mediterranean. Captain John Dempsey would have been related to Captain William Dempsey (b.1809, Kinsale) and Captain Thade Donovan (b.1805, Kinsale) (see Acadia ).
