300 voices sing The ''Messiah'' by Harold R. White (''Irish Independent'' Music Critic)

Scope and Content: Newspaper extract. Dublin is celebrating the bi-centenary of the the first production of Handel's ''Messiah''. Rita Lynch, Macroom soprano took part. Harold White (1872-1943) in his article '300 voices sing the Messiah' observes that the bicentenary performance of Handel's Messiah at the Gaiety Theatre, South King Street Dublin on 13th April 1942 in Dublin as 'this brilliant assembly'. Included in the performance were the following choirs; The Dublin Grand Opera Society , Culwick Choral Society, Turner Huggard's Oratorio choir, University Dublin Choral Society and the University College Musical Society. Leader of the Orchestra was Terry O' Connor. Rita was the leading soloist on this special occasion and White notes that although a little 'oversentimental' at times her 'singing is characterised by points of great beauty'.

Harold White, music journalist and composer, assumed the name Dermot MacMurrough when composing. He spent time as a chorister in Christ Church Cathedral 1881 - 1887 as well as an organist at St Mary's and St Andrew's in Dublin. In later life he became a music critique for the Irish Independent providing performance notes and reviews.
