Rural Sanitary Authority Minutes (Labourers ’ Acts) Scope and Content:

Volume recording minutes of proceedings of the board of guardians acting as the rural sanitary authority under the Labourers (Ireland) Acts, 1883 and 1885. Meetings were generally held weekly, and minutes are signed by the chairman and the clerk, acting as executive sanitary officer. The principal subject is schemes for erecting labourers’ cottages, and related actions. These include land acquisition, securing approval for schemes, obtaining loans from the Commissioners of Public Works, receiving inspector ’s reports, legal processes and disputes, letting to tenants, and communicating with the LGB on all aspects of each scheme. The volume contains a number of insertions, including an index and two letters of notice of special meetings to consider ‘the representations signed by the ratepayers’ in respect of stat ed electoral divisions (dated 12 Oct and 16 Nov 1885).
