Scope and Content: Gives him 'tips based on very good sources of information'. Refers to distrust of Belton and Brennan (of the Christian Front) and others. There is a feeling in the Church that it is a job for the Bishops. There is 'widespread suspicion that this is an attempt to found a Catholic Political Party'. They should avoid all reference to the Government's foreign policy. Their attitude should be 'to adhere loyally to the Pope's declaration + to express determination to prevent the occurrence here of the tragedy now being enacted in Spain'.

He is sorry he cannot see his way to attend the convention of the Irish Christian Front. He ‘merely associated’ himself ‘with certain Cork Catholics in order to declare our attitude to the Spanish Conflict.’ It is merely a ‘loose local organisation’ in Cork. He is out of touch even with the few on the Committee. He is not inclined to accept the admission card from ‘some organisation in Dublin,’ purporting to act for the whole of Ireland. While admitting the good qualities of some of the Dublin leaders he is not prepared to join an organisation under their leadership.
