Scope and Content: He is glad de Róiste will be collaborating in a play for the competition, particularly one using the Irish language. He does not find it incongruous that characters would speak in Irish who would not have in recent life. He refers to a censored propaganda film featuring Hitler speaking in English, and the naming of Black and Tans using Irish names. ‘Broadly speaking, if an author is not himself obviously self-conscious about language, the audience will usually not be self-conscious either.’

Title: MS. letter from William T Cosgrave, leader of Fine Gael and the opposition in the Dáil, Beechpark, Templeogue, Co. Dublin to Liam de Róiste. Thanks him for his continued loyal confidence. He sees no prospect of a national government as matters stand as there is no agreement on national progress. The obstacle is the head of government (possible reference to Eamon De Valera). He sees no prospect of the fusion of the two parties, as one is for collective wisdom, the other that of an individual (De Valera). 29 Jun 1943 2pp Level: Item Extent: 2pp Part of: U271/J/008 Scope and Content:
