1. 7 Oct 1925 He is ‘very sorry’ that de Róiste was knocked out of the Senate contest as he was ‘particularly anxious’ to seem him elected. Walsh ‘had to fight every inch of ground...’ to have him included. ‘There seemed to be a general impression that you were not strong enough on many things...,’ and ‘...the number of people in Cork prepared to back the old Sinn Féin elements is not worth counting on....’ 2pp

2. 22 Oct 1925 He assures de Róiste of his friendship. Refers to the Seanad election. Also , Ballincollig Post Office master position. (1p)

3. 2 Jul 1926 He reluctantly voted with the Government on the issue of tariffs. Refers to Commission to which de Róiste will be proposed. (1p)

4. 30 Jul 1926 Concerns appointment of Commissioners, ‘strong speaking is necessary’. (1p)

5. 26 Jul 1926 Refers to ‘surprise’ at not seeing that report on Monday’s press. (1p)

6. 20 Sep 1926 Marked ‘Private’. Asks de Róiste to take the President to the Spinning and Weaving (Company) Blackpool and all the other mills and factories that have been shut down, also the industries that have been protected. (1p)

7. 28 Sep 1926 He has decided to come to Cork for the President’s visit. Asks him to take his place to talk to the Economic and Literary Society of Cork about Protection. (1p)

8. 21 Dec 1926 Asks de Róiste to write a ‘slashing letter’ to the Irish Times against an engineer’s letter to the paper, one of ‘the biggest enemies of the country’ who thinks we are ‘an inferior people knowing nothing about industries’. Also refers to a drop in bank deposits of 20 millions. (2pp) 9. 24 Jan 1927 Refers to ‘...Johnson’s onslaught on the Government’ in the Independent and ‘his characterisation of Paddy Hogan as the friend of the rancher’. Asks de Róiste to put up a sensible resolution, to the Cork executive of the party, on the Irish market for the Irish farmer, for national circulation. Letter is ‘Strictly Private.’ (2pp)

10. 24 Dec 1926 Refers to his suggestion to JJ Horgan to call a conference of the public
