Courthouse, Cork to Liam de Róiste TD, Alderman, 26 Grand Parade, Cork. Level: Item Extent: 1p Part of: U271/H/2/011/B Scope and Content: Asks him to assist bearer, John Hartnett 2nd Lieutenant, H. Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade, IRA. He was severely wounded in action against British forces, worked for the White Cross, was homeless as his house was burned down. As the White Cross is being wound up, he seeks decent employment, perhaps at Messrs. Ford in Cork. He contacted Councillor French who suggested de Róiste could give him a reference.

General Headquarters, Four Courts, Dublin to 'Each TD'. Level: Item Extent: 1p plus 3pp enclosure. Part of: U271/H/2/011/B Scope and Content: Enclosing 'brief summary of the events leading up to the present position'. 'The approval of the Articles of Agreement for a Treaty by Dáil Éireann necessarily involved the disestablishment of the existing Republic....In order to avoid disaster an Army Convention was requested....this...was subsequently forbidden by the Cabinet'. Gives text of letter to Secretary Dáil Éireann 14 Apr 1922 from Secretary IRA Army Council, with 'conditions of unification', including 'To maintain the Army as the Irish Republican Army', 'Disbandment of the Civic Guard', 'No elections on the issue'. With text of letter from Colm O'Murchadha, Army Council, to Secretary, Dáil Éireann, further summarising the political situation, 'It is only the Army of the Republic which can save the country from being forced- by the connivance of Mr. Griffith and Mr. Collins - to yield up its liberty under fear of war'.
