Series of MS. letters from JJ Walsh (Seamus Breathnach), Mountjoy Prison,
Dublin, to Liam de Róiste Level: file Extent: 3 items Part of:
U271/H/1/B/1/A
Scope and Content: 1. 14 Mar 1919 He is 'very annoyed over the failure of that other business', suspects the special instructions were ignored, suggests seeing MC [Michael Collins]. 'The whole affair is humiliating'. He contacted the Harbour Board taking exception to the concluding paragraph. Says 'Our charge is in connection with that King's County meeting and the speeches reported against us are laughably weak, unfortunately'. (1p) 2. nd [Mar 1919] Refers to Harbour Board meeting. Asks de Róiste to proceed to Dublin to assist 'in the arrangements'. So far 'there is no charge against us....but we assume it is in connection with that proposal to grab the land from the people of Edenderry. What they hope to gain by this gaoling game after four years of painful failure I cannot see. Evidently they haven’t yet realised that the Irish people refuse to be intimidated'. (1p) 3. 25 Mar 1919. He was anxious to speak with de Róiste on several matters. He will be tried at Ship Street on Friday. He is getting the Cork Examiner daily and so can follow doings in Cork. Suggests de Róiste should continue to attend Harbour Board meetings, and put an end to 'that matter'. (2pp)
